programme note:

In Sparks, the music throughout is extremely tense and compact. An attempt at a thin strand of musical line is being constantly subjugated by elements that seem to grow from it and briefly shoot off in other directions. This image made the title seem appropriate. The ensemble is treated as one large 'instrument', the sound of which is under continuous review, as it perpetually changes colour and shape from one second to the next.
